Ancestor Mounds

Our ancient people laid their relatives to rest in ancestor mounds between 1,400 and 800 years ago. The largest mounds were built for our siyá:m, men and women who were respected leaders. The mounds were carefully constructed inside and out with a central resting place, rock walls, and layers of ochre and earth.
